The Christmas bee
As the snowflakes dance, white and pure,
Each branch is dusted with a snowy allure,
And the hive lies deep in its slumber secure,
With no flowers left to seek and pursue.
One little bee, so small and spright,
Forgetting how to rest through winter’s plight,
Falls not asleep so deeply,
But lost in blooms calling so sweetly.
And so she drifts through the frosty air,
In search of a tiny glow, a golden glare,
That’s long since vanished from view,
Until she crosses a bright windowsill.
Seeing the hustle and bustle inside,
With cut oranges and lemons set aside.
Butter is blended with sugar so sweet,
Honey and eggs mixed with a lively beat.
Then joined by nuts, cocoa and almond oil,
Followed with coffee, flour and sunflower oil.
Gingerbread spice and salt are tossed in at last,
Before the dough is set to chill and take its cast.
Next a festive roast is prepared and set in sight,
With rosemary and thyme added so it’s done just right.
Then chopped onions, broccoli, carrots,
cauliflower and shallots too.
And on the table, a fir tree stands,
Green, fresh, and glowing grand.
Now the bee, gentle and tiny,
Circles the warm candle’s glow lightly.
Feeling the warmth that’s soft and tender,
She flies to the top to see the splendour,
Her little heart beating, gently and softly,
In the still of the night, she glows brightly.
A star is born the whole year through,
A true miracle for all to view.
And now for all those who take witness here,
Shall see a bee drawn to Christmas cheer.
The giver of gifts, so is the bee,
Of all that’s on our tables, for you and me.
So, let’s pause to honour the Christmas bee,
As we enjoy the gifts beneath the tree.
