UN Global Compact participation

«The world needs companies that are economically successful and, at the same time, assume social and ecological responsibility.»

KOFI ANNAN,
former Secretary-General of the United Nations

In the summer of 2024, ENNEATECH joined the UN Global Compact Network Germany. This “Global Compact” refers to a type of a principle-based framework for businesses. What does it entail?

The pact was officially offered to all interested business leaders after a call to action from then UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, at the World Economic Forum in Davos on 31 January 1999. Under this pact, participating companies are committed to complying with the ten Global Compact principles of fair, inclusive and sustainable corporate governance and aim to work towards a more just and more sustainable future within the framework of the 2030 Agenda – specifically, to achieve the 17 UN-Nachhaltigkeitsziele (UN Sustainable Development Goals, “SDGs”

The SDGs should be reached by 2030. However, since we are still some way from achieving our goals, the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, called for a “Decade of Action” at the start of 2020 and tasked the UN Global Compact with mobilising the business community with even greater vigour. This is because the innovative and investment power of the economy is crucial to achieving the SDGs. Furthermore, through systematic engagement with the SDGs, companies can better recognise both risks and opportunities that can be addressed by promoting responsible and sustainable corporate governance.

The 10 principles of the UN Global Compact

Alongside their commitment to actively support the SDGs, participants in the UN Global Compact must also follow ten corporate principles structured according to the action areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption – all topics where companies have a significant responsibility:

We, at Enneatech, pursue the first 6 principles as well as principle 10 through our own internal Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct, to whose compliance we are firmly committed, and also through our Code of Conduct for Suppliers, which closely resembles the principles of the Global Compact. In this code, we highlight the principles of fair, inclusive and sustainable corporate governance to our contractors and underline that compliance with these principles forms the basis of any joint business
relationship for us.

As experts in the field of high-quality technical plastic recyclates, however, our focus is most certainly on the environment, and with respect to principle 9, on developing and distributing environmentally friendly technologies – with every gram of our Entron eco granules, our customers save up to 90 per cent CO2 compared to virgin material.

On our Website we have also broken down the ways in which we are already systematically supporting the achievement of specific SDGs through our business activities.
